Labradoodles. Some tips on Grooming

Wavy/Hair  Coats  require very little grooming and no trimming. But most will do some shedding ..

Curly (Wool)  coats are totally non shedding and most suitable for people with severe dog related allergies.  Regular brushing with a slicker brush is needed each couple of weeks.  Clipping or trimming twice each year.

Fleece coats are moderately curly, and long.  They require practically no grooming until the puppy reaches between eight and fourteen months, at which time the adult coat replaces the puppy coat.  The puppy coat does not shed out, so it has to be stripped out to prevent matting, until it's all gone and the adult coat is properly through.

IMPORTANT:  Please note that it is not possible to have a true Fleece/Borderline Coat on a first, second or third generation Labradoodle. Some inexperienced  breeders are mistaking coats for Borderline because they sometimes 'look' the same. But the texture is the secret to the true Fleece  easy care, non shedding coat which has been developed over quite a number of years.

TIP:  When you bath your Labradoodle, do not scrub the coat dry around in circles or up and down. This causes matts.  Squeeze out the moisture with a towel and then brush with a hair dryer.  If the coat looks too fluffy and huge after blow drying, a misting of water from a bottle will settle the waves/curls back into place. Do not bathe too often. This sets up a cycle...more you bathe, then the more you'll need to.  Let them dry clean...it all drops out!
